A True Friend

A true friend is closer than a brother. A true friend can sit with you in silence because they know that is the best that they can offer and it’s more than enough. I lost a close friend recently, and the only way I am enduring it is to focus on the fact that love transcends time and space, life and death, and everything in between.

I find peace in the fact that Love Lives:

Love lives beyond our temporary time here on earth. Love encourages in exceedingly overflowing amounts in the midst of despair; Love invites us to look up in hope and receive a peace that surpasses ALL understanding.

And the word “understanding” stops me in my tracks because I don’t. How then do I – or any of us – go on without answers?

The answer is we don’t.

Rather, we hope on IN LOVE every day, moment by moment, second by second as well as by every second thought and second thought that follows.

I have chosen to not attempt to resolve the pain I feel by coming up with simple or complex answers that fall surpassingly short of the clarity that I desire and feel that I need in equal measure to my next breath.  I therefore, offer no answer for only the All Knowing God, our Father, can deliver such in His time, in His graciousness, as hearts are prepared along the way… throughout this life as well as into eternity.

For in this life on earth, the pain will not be fully resolved because the presence of Love causes us to recognize the opposite of it. And the presence of death crashes into our experience of life without warning. In our own momentous and equally humanly fragile, futile ways, when it comes to loss, if we had been warned we would have prepared, but even if we would have been able to define Prepared and accomplish the tasks that we believed would have been necessary to be Prepared, all of us together still cannot hold back suffering or the death that follows; nor can we negate the suffering that follows death as we all suffer IN LOVE together today and the days to come.

We are left with a hefty realization of ALL that we DON’T know.

We are blinded by what we don’t see

And we are deaf to all that we cannot hear.

I have personal experiences with diagnoses of deafness and blindness, and I refuse to have them define me and my family. Further, I refuse to talk merely of physical sights and sounds. For if we only focus on the physical realties of things that is ALL we have. And I know that we can have exceedingly more than all that we ask and believe for.

I speak now of the Spirit. That Spirit is Love.

1 John 4:6 states that God is Love, which causes us to become curious as to the definition OF Love….. This definition OF LOVE gives us a detailed account of God’s character.

1 Corinthians 13 New International Version (NIV)

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

And it is this Love Whom IS GOD to which we cling and hope for peace beyond our understanding of things we cannot comprehend or bear for even one moment alone.

When you seek for answers you can’t find this side of Heaven, rest in the fact that God IS Love and that God is the Answer.

And remember one thing: God who IS Love and God who IS THE Answer cannot and will not be fully comprehended on this earth.

But God Our Father is and can be known even further as we seek His presence and His comfort by pressing into Him, becoming more and more acquainted with all the beautiful qualities that He possesses.

In the midst of our pain our ALL KNOWING and OMNIPRESENT FATHER GOD speaks from Heaven as well as from within our hearts forever proclaiming that He is stronger than it!

God desires to trade our ashes for His beauty. He, desires our time, the ear of our hearts and the eyes of our faith, God desires to have conversations with us in our quandary of all that we ARE NOT on this earth and ALL that we cannot understand. Let us not seek to understand – let us seek to KNOW God more and in so doing, ALL that we are NOT and ALL that we cannot comprehend will begin to pale in comparison to the Love of Christ that can fill us, flow through us and help not only us, but all with whom we come in contact. May the God of ALL Comfort overflow within us and through us today and always.

And may God – who IS Love manifest in all that we think, speak, and do moving forward allowing the exceedingly more essence of God’s Love to be accomplished  - in, through, and for us.

Today, my focus is on the true essence of friendship. A true friend is closer than a brother; but then again, sometimes our best friend is our brother.  The picture for this blog is of my two kids who are like best friends to one another. My daughter, Faith, jumped on my son, Jacob's back, and her earing magnetized to his cochlear implant. My heart overflows when I look at this picture because of the love that lives between them, transcending time and space, breaking beyond any barriers of mere physical hearing. These two listen with their hearts and they have taught me to do the same. Love lives beyond our temporary time here on earth. Love encourages in exceedingly overflowing amounts in the midst of despair; Love invites us to look up in hope.

I hope you are encouraged today in that love lives and overflows between true friends in overflowing, recycling, restorative amounts. I’m soaking in that Truth today. As I look up in hope, I am also looking to today to be fully present with those whom I love dearly. And, I am looking for opportunities to love others unconditionally, fully, and without regret.

I fear that fact that my kids call me “The Queen of Corny” may get a little out of hand in the days and years to come. But, if I’m corny for telling you how much I love you and what I value about you for the rest of my days; so be it.  Ready yourself. :)
